Introduction
A school internship for a student teacher serves as a pivotal learning experience, providing an opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom and the practical application of teaching skills. During this internship, student teachers engage in hands-on teaching, observing experienced educators, and participating in the daily operations of the school environment. This experience helps them develop essential skills such as lesson planning, classroom management, and student assessment, while also fostering professional growth and confidence. Ultimately, the internship enables aspiring teachers to refine their teaching methods and gain valuable insights into the complexities of the educational field.
During my internship as a Physical Science teacher, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the dynamic environment of the classroom. I was responsible for planning and delivering lessons, which included both theoretical concepts and hands-on experiments to engage students in the learning process. I quickly learned how to adapt lesson plans to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring that each student could grasp complex scientific concepts. Managing classroom behavior and maintaining a productive learning environment were also key aspects of my experience. I gained valuable insights into student motivation, assessment techniques, and the importance of clear communication in facilitating learning. Observing experienced teachers allowed me to refine my teaching methods and receive constructive feedback, helping me grow both professionally and personally. This internship strengthened my passion for teaching and deepened my understanding of how to effectively convey the wonders of Physical Science to students.
During this periods the student teacher had to do many practical works at school , which paied the way for more vital experiances in different fields apart from her usual subject. There were about nineteen practicals in total. As a part of practical works , the student teacher took classes on different subject rather than her own usual subjects Physics and chemistry.
Value education class is one amoung that. The student teacher had given two classes on values "Faithfulness" and "Responsibility" for the nineth standard studentsValue education plays a crucial role in shaping the character of teenagers, helping them navigate the challenges of growing up while building strong moral foundations. Faithfulness teaches teenagers the importance of loyalty and trust in their relationships, whether with friends, family, or commitments. It encourages them to be dependable and consistent in their actions, fostering strong, respectful bonds with others. Responsibility, on the other hand, empowers teens to take ownership of their choices and actions, both in their academic pursuits and personal lives. It teaches them to be accountable, make wise decisions, and contribute positively to their community. By instilling these values, teenagers not only grow as individuals but also learn to be reliable and trustworthy members of society.
Another interesting class given is the "Language across the curriculum" classes.Language across the curriculum refers to the integration of language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—into all subject areas, not just language arts. The student teacher took two classes on that, taking two different topis from physics and chemistry. It emphasizes that language is essential for learning and understanding content in every discipline, from science to mathematics to social studies. By promoting language development across the curriculum, students enhance their ability to express ideas clearly, comprehend complex texts, and engage in critical thinking. This approach helps students build communication skills that are vital for academic success and real-world applications, fostering deeper learning and more meaningful connections between subjects.
When it comes to physical education, there the student teacher done the role of a physical education teacher. She had given thwo classes for Aerobic exercises, three Yoga classes and two Health education classes. Taking aerobic exercise training can be highly beneficial for students, promoting both physical and mental well-being. Aerobic exercises, such as running, swimming, or cycling, improve cardiovascular health, increase stamina, and enhance overall fitness, which can contribute to better energy levels and focus throughout the school day. Regular aerobic activity also helps in stress management, reduces anxiety, and improves mood, which is particularly important for students facing academic pressures. Additionally, engaging in such exercises can improve sleep patterns, boost concentration, and foster teamwork and social interaction when done in groups. By incorporating aerobic exercise into their routine, students develop healthy habits that support their long-term well-being, both academically and personally.
For Yoga , the student teacher selected two yogasanas for each classes, thus total four asanas in two classes. In the first class she selected "Trigonasana" and "Virabhadrasana' . For the second class she selected "Tasasana" and "Natrajasana".Yoga, like aerobics, offers numerous physical and mental health benefits. It improves flexibility, strengthens muscles, and enhances cardiovascular health, much like aerobic exercises. Additionally, yoga promotes stress relief and mental clarity through mindful breathing and relaxation techniques. Practicing yoga regularly can increase focus, boost energy levels, and contribute to a balanced, healthier lifestyle.
The health education classes were on the topics "Monkey pox" and "Obesity".Taking health education classes on monkeypox and obesity is crucial for raising awareness and promoting prevention. In the case of monkeypox, students learn about symptoms, transmission, and protective measures to reduce the spread of infectious diseases. Education on obesity focuses on the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and understanding the health risks associated with excessive weight, such as diabetes and heart disease. By providing accurate, evidence-based information, these classes empower students to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Then the student teacher took classes on the art form "Kuchupudi" and one of the cultural heritage of India called "The hill forts of Rajasatan".Classes on art forms and cultural heritage of India offer students a rich opportunity to explore the country's diverse traditions and artistic expressions. From classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Kathak to visual arts such as Madhubani and Warli paintings, these classes introduce students to the deep cultural roots that shape India's identity. They not only help preserve these ancient practices but also encourage creativity, appreciation for cultural diversity, and respect for historical traditions. By learning about India’s art forms and cultural heritage, students gain a greater understanding of the country's vibrant history and its contributions to global art and culture.
This is all about classes given by the student teacher during her internship period. More than class giving the student teacher had lot more experiances too. The student teacher had to organise an activity amoung students to conscientise National integration. For its fulfilment she along with other student teachers organised a Quiz competition and Debate program regarding Independance day. Organizing quizzes and debates is an effective way to raise awareness about national integration among students. These interactive activities encourage students to explore topics related to unity, diversity, and the importance of social harmony in India. Through quizzes, students can test their knowledge about the country’s history, cultural heritage, and constitutional values, while debates provide a platform for them to express their views on topics like secularism, regionalism, and national unity. Such events foster critical thinking, promote respectful dialogue, and instill a sense of pride in India's diversity, helping students recognize the significance of unity in building a strong, inclusive nation.
Another work is Case study based on learning problems of school pupils. For that student teacher had select a case studing in eight standard who is suffering from anxiety and restlessness due to Hyperthyroidism. The case is having learning difficulty due to her intence anxiety problem. She is taking medicines for this issue. Additionally , the student teacher suggested some remedies like daily exercise and controlled diet for the betterment of her condition.
My action reserach was on the topic "Difficulty in learning periodic table". For that I conducted texts and survey pre and post teaching them about periodic table by using different methods. To learn the periodic table effectively, students can use a variety of creative strategies. One helpful approach is to break the table into smaller sections, such as groups and periods, to focus on memorizing key elements at a time. Mnemonics and memory aids can be especially useful, allowing students to create memorable phrases or stories for each group of elements. Visual aids, like color-coded charts, can also help by associating elements with their properties, such as metals, non-metals, and metalloids. Regular practice, through flashcards or interactive quizzes, and making connections to real-life applications of elements, further reinforce retention and understanding of the periodic table.
For the practical work 'club activity', the student teacher divided the nineth standard students into two groups. One person from each group should come forward to take seminar on science related topics of their own interest. Each group has to prepare an innovative chart on any science topic they select. They prepared charts on "periodic table" and "Structure of atom".
In conclusion, the experience of a student teacher during the internship period is a transformative journey that bridges the gap between theory and practice. It provides invaluable opportunities to apply teaching methods, manage classrooms, and develop relationships with students, all while receiving guidance and feedback from experienced educators. Through challenges and successes, student teachers gain confidence, refine their instructional skills, and deepen their understanding of pedagogy. This hands-on experience not only prepares them for their future careers but also instills a sense of responsibility and commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for their students. Ultimately, the internship period is a crucial stepping stone in shaping competent, reflective, and passionate educators.
